Top Story:  Canada Day Home Hardware Belt Sander Races Were A Hit!

On July 1st the Pioneer Home Hardware Staff and Managment were looking for the fastest time down the line at the annual Home Hardware Belt Sander Races sponsored by Makita Tools. The top racing time was held once again by Cyriel DeBruyne of Quality Foods in Campbell River by his belt sander appropriately named Pro Street, at a quick 2.6 seconds for the full run of the 110ft track. In second place for the 2010 Belt Sander Races was Geoff Bartcliff racing his belt sander named The Fighting Eagles, timing in at 2.8 seconds. Cyriel and Geoff are pictured above in one of their champion runs (left to right, respectively) in the Modified Belt Sander Category.

A huge congratulations to all participants that helped to make the 2010 Home Hardware Belt Sander Races a successful event, and we wish you all good luck next year. For anybody that is interested in participating in this free family event next year, stop in to your Campbell River Home Hardware and get specific information about requirements and registration.

Didn't bring your beltsander? Forgot it in the garage? No problem, you can race too! Above are two ladies that are racing Home Hardware's stock belt sanders for the fastest time down the line!

These races are fast folks, so find a space down the 110 foot track and don't blink (otherwise you'll miss it!)

Above: The 110 foot racing regulation size track before the action gets started for the day (track is actually longer with start and stop areas). Quiet before the storm!

One of the most creative entrants we've had over the 2 years in hosting the event. This participant made a belt sander with a hampster and wheel on top of it, along with bumpers to guide it straight down the track! Excellent effort!

Let the dust fly! Belt sander racers watch with excitement as they race for the fastest time down the line!

Racing Belt Sanders is all about Family Fun! Come on out next year and join us for awesome Canada Day action!

A BIG THANKS to Island Life Photographics (Lee Simmons) for the excellent pictures used above!
